Flow Mode
Remove distractions with a single keystroke so you can stay in deep work.
What is Flow Mode?
Flow Mode blurs everything except your current focus area, helping you concentrate on the task at hand. It’s inspired by the concept of “flow state” - that feeling of complete immersion in your work.
Activating Flow Mode
Keyboard Shortcut
Press Cmd+. to toggle Flow Mode on and off.
From the Menu
Click the Focus icon in the header bar.
What Happens in Flow Mode
When you activate Flow Mode:
- Background Blur - The wallpaper and non-essential UI elements blur
- Reduced Chrome - Toolbars and sidebars fade back
- Focus Highlight - Your active panel is emphasized
- Ambient Sound - Optional ambient music continues
Customizing Flow Mode
Focus Area
Flow Mode highlights your currently focused panel:
- Editor when editing code
- Terminal when running commands
- Preview when testing
Click a different panel to shift focus.
Duration
There’s no timer - stay in Flow Mode as long as you need. Toggle off when you’re ready to return to normal view.
Tips for Deep Work
Pair with Music
Enable the music player before entering Flow Mode. Ambient or lo-fi music can help maintain focus.
Minimize Notifications
Consider enabling Do Not Disturb on your Mac while in Flow Mode.
Full Screen
Combine Flow Mode with macOS full screen (Ctrl+Cmd+F) for maximum immersion.
Take Breaks
Even in flow state, take regular breaks. The Pomodoro technique (25 min work, 5 min break) works well.
