Remote Access

Access Blueberry from other devices on your local network, like an iPad or phone.

Overview

Remote Access lets you use Blueberry from any device on your local network. This is useful for:

  • Using your iPad as a second screen
  • Quick edits from your phone
  • Pairing with a colleague on the same network

Enabling Remote Access

  1. Open Blueberry Settings (Cmd+,)
  2. Go to the “Network” section
  3. Toggle “Allow Remote Access” on
  4. Note the connection URL shown (e.g., http://192.168.1.100:4200)

Connecting from Another Device

  1. Open a web browser on your other device
  2. Enter the connection URL from Blueberry settings
  3. Blueberry loads as a web app

iPad/iPhone

For the best experience on iOS:

  1. Open the URL in Safari
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. Select “Add to Home Screen”
  4. Open from your home screen for a full-screen app experience

What Works in Remote Mode

Code Editor
Terminal
File Explorer
Preview Browser⚠️ Limited
DevTools
Element Picker

Preview Limitations

The preview browser in remote mode uses an iframe instead of a webview. Localhost URLs are automatically converted to your Mac’s IP address.

Security Considerations

Local Network Only

Remote access is restricted to your local network. Devices must be on the same WiFi/LAN to connect.

Session Token

Each remote session uses a token for authentication. The token is generated when you enable remote access.

Recommendations

  • Only enable remote access when you need it
  • Disable it when finished
  • Don’t use on public networks

Troubleshooting

Can’t Connect

  1. Verify both devices are on the same network
  2. Check that remote access is enabled in Blueberry
  3. Try the IP address directly (not hostname)
  4. Check your firewall allows connections on the Blueberry port

Preview Not Working

If previewing localhost sites from remote:

  1. Start your dev server with --host 0.0.0.0 flag
  2. Or use npm run dev -- --host
  3. This allows your dev server to accept connections from other devices

Slow Performance

Remote access adds network latency. For best performance:

  • Use a wired connection if possible
  • Stay close to your WiFi router
  • Reduce preview refresh rate

Future Improvements

We’re working on:

  • Password/PIN protection
  • QR code for easy connection
  • mDNS discovery (automatic finding of Blueberry)
  • Notification when devices connect
